Beta 2 of Opera for the Pocket PC unofficially released; Includes tabbed browsing

March 1, 2006

The second beta version of the Opera browser for the Pocket PC and Windows Mobile has been added to Opera’s FTP directory.

This beta version includes some major updates including the much-awaited tabbed browsing capabilities. The official release is expected tomorrow.

Based on Opera’s latest core code, Opera 8.5 for Windows Mobile Pocket PC (PPC) includes Opera’s rendering technology that dynamically reformats Web pages to fit the width of any screen size without the need for the horizontal scrollbar. It also supports all major Web standards, including CSS2, DOM 2 and JavaScript.

This version runs on Windows Mobile 2003 and Windows Mobile 5.0.

Important note: Download at your own risk. This release is still unofficial.

Update (3/2/2006); This release is now official.

    Hannes,

Having multiple pages in the browser doesn’t necessarily mean that it supports tabs. In fact Opera was the first to support multiple pages in the browser, yet it wasn’t the first to have tabs.
