Opera joins group in antitrust complaint against Microsoft

February 23, 2006

Opera’s spokesman Tor Odland told Opera Watch that Opera is part of the group the filed a complaint with the European (EU) Commission last week, alleging its business practices threatened to deny real choice among competing software products.

The group, which includes IBM, Oracle, RealNetworks, Nokia and Sun Microsystems, is asking EU regulators to force Microsoft to end its monopoly practices. Odland explains the basis for Opera’s participation is that Opera is a strong advocate for interoperability on the Internet.

Read the statement by the chairman of the European Committee for Interoperable Systems’ (ECIS), the group that filed the complaint.

Microsoft will just make a version of Windows without IE (or whatever), sell it for the same price and say:

“Look, they want IE (or whatever) to be in it!”
