BitTorrent to be Included in Opera 9

October 28, 2005

An Opera official told me that they plan on including BitTorrent support in the final release of Opera 9.

In July of this year Opera became the first browser to add support for BitTorrent, though only in preview and beta versions not in any final releases.

Interesting… so when is the Opera 9 release expected? Seems there are some quality issues with O9 (I’ve had my browser hanging/sucking up lots of memory).

Is this supposed to be news? 🙂

    From the official 9.0P1 announcement:

“We continue to make progress on our BitTorrent support and it will be included in a public release as soon as possible.”

    anonymous,

A public release doesn’t necessarily mean a final release.

It doesn’t even mean the next final release. Getting a specific version number is, in fact, new information.

Maybe this is news for some people but it was quite obvious if you followed the BT and Merlin development and Opera staff comments. 😉

It is very obvious that the aim is to include BT in 9.0. Look at the 9.0 preview announcement. The wording here is “plan on”, which is the exact same info.

Talk about making news out of nothing 😉

Reguardless of whether it is news or a play on words, I for one am very happy to hear we will have BitTorrent in a Opera finial release

Well not everyone has time to follow the forums and pick up on staff comments etc. This place is good for getting an overview on whats going on at Opera, and so should continue with this type of news, even though you could probably get it from looking through the forums.

That´s not the point. There´s nothing new in the blog entry that hasn´t already been said so this is hardly news.

This blog entry could have been posted 1 week ago linking to the TP announcement in the Forums and the BT reference someone posted above: that´s “news”.

Holy crap! If these are blog commenters are Opera’s fans, I’d hate to hear from their enemies…

To address the latest two anonymous comments…

    1. It’ll naturally be built on the BT we saw last time.

    2. Opera fans, maybe, but that doesn’t mean that one can’t be critical towards irresponsible reporting.
