Opera for the Pocket PC Coming Soon

September 21, 2005

A Technical Preview of Opera for the Pocket PC is due out very soon.

Pocket PC users have been waiting for this for a long time. This will be the first ever version for the Pocket PC.

It appears to me that this version will require Windows Mobile 5.0.

Updte (9/23 4:01 PM): According to Eskil Sivertsen from Opera, Opera for the Pocket PC will be available for both Windows Mobile 2003 and 5.0.

What cruel joke is this? Windows Mobile 5? I thought only the latest high end models had those. What’s wrong with trusty old Pocket PC 2002?

At the very least one would expect support for WM2003 (and 2003SE.) The vast majority of the high-end machines now run that still.

I’m very psyched about there coming a browser for the PPC though, finally. Been waiting for it for years

YOU NEED TO START LINKING TO YOUR SOURCE FOR WHATEVER YOU ARE POSTING HERE. YOU ALWAYS MAKE IT LOOK LIKE YOU HAVE INSIDER INFORMATION OR SPECIAL CONNECTIONS AT OPERA BUT MOST OF IT IS JUST PICKED UP FROM PRESS RELEASES AND SUCH.

START LINKING TO THE PAGE YOU FOUND THIS INFO ON. THAT WAY PEOPLE CAN VERIFY THAT YOU AREN’T JUST FULL OF CRAP LIKE YOU WERE ABOUT THE SUPPOSED NEW UI (LOL).

It seems that Opera already runs on WM5 and Pocket PC, according to screenshot posted by Kim Nyberg.

Anyway, I’m very eager to try Opera on my iPAQ hx4700, since HP is not going to offer a WM5 upgrade before next spring, if even then.
