Opera 8.01 Technical Preview released

May 6, 2005

Opera has released Opera 8.01 preview 1 that fixes some issues with Opera 8.

A number of users have been experiencing frequent crashes when clicking links on certain pages, this new build attempts to fix this issue, among some other minor changes.

It’s worth noting, a preview release is not a stable release. Previews don’t go through the thorough tests, as do beta and final releases.

I think the crashers were mainly found on Windows. I haven’t had much crashes with the Linux version in any case.

I’ve used Opera since ver. 5 and have been steadily upgrading with each latest version. I’ve always installed the newer version on top of the old one and never had a single problem with missing bookmarks.

But ver.8 seem to be a different beast.

It refuses to read the bookmark (*.adr) from ver. 6 that I threw inside the install folder and the ver. 8 installation completely overwritten my themes & settings. I’ve yet to check for missing plugins.
