New release: Opera 7.54u2

February 2, 2005

Opera has posted a new stable version of its desktop browser in their FTP directory.

There has been no official announcement from Opera as of yet.

The new version, called Opera 7.54u2, most likely contains some urgent security update. Opera is planning on releasing the next major version (new browser name withheld) sometime in Feb 2005.

Update (Feb 4, 2005): Opera 7.54u2 has now been posted on Opera’s official download page.

In this version, Opera has fixed the “data:” URI Handler Spoofing Vulnerability as well as additional fixes for frame injection issues.

No word yet on whether these vulnerabilities exist in Opera 8.0.

I don’t think announcing releases here before Opera has done it themselves is particularily responsible.

Waiting until Opera posts a press release is much more fair to Opera, and in the rare cases where Opera have to pull a build before it’s official, announcing it on a site such as this will only make people download products that may have bugs.

May not yet be “official” yet, but it is still on the public server. 😉
